Chasing the Wind

Creator: Jean Boileau | 2008-07-07

That evening after the cats had all been fed the caregiver came out with a cortisone tablet to give Coby. She worried about how fast his heart beat; it didn't seem normal. Was it the pill or was it simply part of the illness.

About this book
Caring comes with a price. Often times the price of compassion is that of exhaustion and sorrow but caring comes with joys and celebration; celebrations of lives saved.Chasing the Wind is a personal look into my life as a caregiver, the hardships, the joys, tears and inspirations helping feral cats and striving towards a more ethical and humane approach to caring for these beautiful felines.

    Solid for the price -

It's hard to be too critical at this price point, but I'll throw out a list of pros and cons;Pros:- Price! You can buy this as an introductory device for your children without worrying too much about what happens to it.- It's a relatively sturdy piece of hardware. The resistive screen allows the use of older stylus'(styli?)that make writing or drawing or taking notes easier than the capacative touchscreen blob stylus'.- Device is already rooted, so if you've ever wanted to put custom firmware on any of your more expensive devices, this is a nice way to practice doing that until you're comfortable with the various procedures.- Expandable storage. Most devices at 5 times the price don't have expandable storage, making this tablet a nice companion for the car, or for traveling.Cons:- Slightly gimped cpu, but it gets the job done. Not the greatest for multitasking, jut make sure you install an app killer so you don't have 20 apps... 4/5 Voxxy - See all my reviews This review is from: Coby Kyros 7-Inch Android 4.0 4 GB Internet Tablet 16:9 Resistive Touchscreen - MID7046-4 (Black) (Personal Computers) It's hard to be too critical at this price point, but I'll throw out a list of pros and cons;Pros:- Price! Okay, I've had this little gem for about 5 days now. I was looking for a ten inch tab, but didn't have a lot of cash. I already have the Acer Iconia A-100, which is a great tablet. But i wanted a 10 incher. When i first got it, it ran fine but there was no Google App Store, bummer, So I got the Amazon App Store. everything was working fine but when I loaded Netflix it didn't work, the app loaded fine but the screen would just go blank. I called Coby Customer Service and they said it was a problems with Adobe flash not running right? Anyways, with Coby you actually get a live person however, you may not get one that knows anything. So i looked around on the internet and found that this is a problem with the tablet. I also found a solution. A tech advised to reboot the system and erase factory files. great for certain things

This is for the 10" coby. I got it to replace the functions of an e-ink kindle. I wanted to be able to read books, surf some simple web pages, maybe check my e-mail and calendar, play some simple games. I liked the idea of a bigger screen that I could see page-size pdf (and maybe a comic book) on. It turns out that this tablet is fine for those needs. It actually seems made pretty well. The touch screen seems to work well - by way of comparison, I've had a couple of older tablet pc's, and older windows ce pda's, my wife has an older resistive touch 7" android, I have an android phone. So on the one hand I've used a lot of touch screens, on the other, I can remember when you had to have a proprietary batter-powered stylus to use one. So to me, the touch screen seems pretty good, but I don't know how that will translate to others. It is a finger print magnet and picks up smudges like mad. It is perfectly adequate for e-book reading and playing simple android games... 4/5 Darrell Meece (East Lansing, MI United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A couple of Aha Moments . . .

Arrived quickly, and I was very happy with how it looked!Things to note:- This takes a very small, 5V DC power supply, which is unusual to me.- It is an unsupported Google device = no Play app store, and still can't figure out how to get HBO GO to work on it, and can't get Facebook created app (unless someone tells me where else you can download it from!)- Has a very sensitive power button - last 3 times I've put it in my backpack for use at work, the power button has been hit in transit and I arrive with it drained and unusable. Could probably be remedied by buying a better case than by using the slipcover it comes with.- Back button often exits you out of something, rather than taking you to your last page/position.- Browser, while effective, does not have near the same functionality as the browser on my PC.- Browser feels slow to me, and it's annoying.Other things to note:- Sound quality was surprisingly good for... 4/5 nizzly - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Lasted Nov 28, 2012 - Dec 12, 2012; then charging pin broke off.

Customer Video Review Length:: 8:27 MinsDecember 12, 2012.Forget all the nice things I had written and said about this tablet. While they all still might be true, it's all useless when the charging pin breaks off in the tablet with less than 1 month of use time. The moment I saw it, I knew that it could be trouble, but I convinced myself that I wouldn't have a problem with it because I'd be gentle each time I put the charging adapter in, or took it out. I'm left with a 60 dollar paperweight now, because since it won't charge up - I can't do a factory reset, and if I can't do a factory reset...well, I'm not going to send it back to get a refund.I tried with this device. I really did. I knew it was the best, or the greatest, or the most sleek. I found workarounds and compromises just to get AmazonApps to not crash. I even bought an on the go cable to see if I could hook up different peripherals.Well, I guess you live and you learn...I'm keeping the video up... 1/5 A. Too good to be true?

I've owned a few inexpensive Android tablets but I never got much use from them because the processor was either too slow or there was too little RAM. My desire was to purchase a tablet to use as an electronic "sketchpad" but these early Android tablets were just too crippled to be any good.I own an iPad2 which really is just a marvelous device. My biggest gripe is that Apple devices are tied to iTunes and the capacitive screen is designed for finger touch. Most iPad styluses have a fat nib which replicates your fingertip. I consider a stylus for drawing on a tablet to be a necessity (though I've certainly seen people create beautiful artwork on an iPad using only their finger as an input device). Drawing with a fat nib stylus is like drawing with a crayon or pastel stick. It's great for something more painterly but not great for tighter drawings created with a pencil or pen. When I found the Coby Kyros tablet, I was intrigued that the tablet could... 3/5 Pierre Fontaine "Pierre Fontaine" (Westchester County, NY) - See all my reviews, December 7, 2012

IT ARRIVED YESTERDAY(TWO DAYS AFTER I ORDERED IT, WHICH WAS GREAT) IT COMES WITH A NICE SLEEVE, CLEANING CLOTH, CORD, ETC AND INSTRUCTION BOOKLET NICELY BOXED. SINCE THIS IS A GIFT FOR MY GRANDSON, I WANTED TO TRY IT OUT FIRST. IT WAS FULLY CHARGED OUT OF THE BX. THE SCREEN IS CLEAR, EASY TO READ WITH NO PROBLEMS. COMES LOADED WITH APPS. ALSO, THE SCREEN IS VERY RESPONSIVE TO SLIGHT TOUCH. I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD NEED A STYLET. IT IS LIGHT AND EASY TO HANDLE. I KNOW THAT MY GRANDSON WILL BE VERY EXCITED ON CHRISTMAS MORNING. I AM GLAD THAT I ORDERED THIS LITTLE TABLET AND I GOT MY MONEY'S WORTH. ANYONE WHO EXPECTS MORE SHOULD PROBABLY ORDER A MORE EXPENSIVE TABLET. WILL UPDATE THIS REVIEW IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER IT IS USED. NOTE: ORDERED AT AMAZON SO FAR, I GIVE IT FIVE STARS. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 20, 2012

Best value for the money out there

I bought this to replace another 7-inch android tablet that broke when it was sat on. That tablet had no brand name, and I had identified a few things I would improve about it if I were to replace it. I did not anticipate having to replace it when I did, but the list of requirements did enable me to narrow down my tablet choices significantly.I wanted a faster processor. At least a dual core, if not quad core. I wanted a better, higher-resolution screen. I wanted bluetooth connectivity. And most importantly, I wanted better battery life. And I wanted all of this for under $200. I got all those and more with this replacement tablet. My choices were narrowed down to this tablet, the Samsung galaxy tab 2 7" wifi, and the nexus 7. The nexus 7 fell out early on when I realized it did not have a micro-sd card slot. Moreover, the tablet would end up costing me more than $200 including taxes and shipping if I bought it from Google. The Samsung tablet had... 4/5 Balaji Ramanathan "balajithegreat" (hoffman estates, il United States) - See all my reviews, April 16, 2013

It was a cheap 7 inch with Android 2 point-something-or-other that I got for about $80.00. I figured he'd toss it around a bit and quickly break it. I was very wrong. It actually ended up being a valuable learning tool -- even though the available applications were VERY limited due to the absence of Google certification. What truly amazed me was the build quality. Excellent tablet for the price!

I've owned two other tablets in the past two years. An off-brand one with an All-Winner A10 board in it, and a Uniden tablet (Same tablet as the Polaroid PMID705) The generic tablet was okay but as I shortly found out, its near impossible to get parts for. I paid 120 bucks for it and after a week it got broken (The charger tip got shoved up inside and busted the powerjack). It felt cheap anyway. The Uniden tablet was nice. No complaints but it had a single core processor and 512ram with no additional storage so unless you had an Micro SD card it all had to be saved on the tablet thus taking up half of them from the start. But it was only 60 bucks so I can't complain. But I finally decided I wanted a decent tablet that ran games good, and browsed the web without lag. And this Coby tablet was going to be my choice. From the second I turned it on I was won-over. It booted up fast. It had a fast response time to doing stuff. I could leave 10 apps open and still... 5/5 Charles E. Hughes (Franklin, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews, March 30, 2013

    Great for the Price

Just received the Coby Kyros MID 9742. For the money this is one fine tablet. I had Xoom Motorola tablet which was unfortunately lost on my travels. Using the Xoom as the standard, for the money the Kyros is a close and impressive second. A lot of the complaints that I have read are from people who are not exploring the tablet. Indeed it does not have Google play but the Amazon app store and other secondary app stores are easily accessible. The problem about havng to go through a computer to move apps from internal storage to the sd card is very solvable. There is a free app on Amazon app store called "App2SD" I downloaded it; you can move apps seamlessly from the internal to external memory in the blink of an eye. I reccommend the Coby Kyros to anyone on a budget or more improtantly to those who want something that works well without the newest bells and whistles that will be antiquated in less than three months. My first tablet

I didn't want to pay twice as much for Apple tablet so I purchased this tablet and I've had it about a week now and love it. I have my main desk PC for word documents and printing. after burning out my laptop and don't want to carry the weight around when I travel. I'm lucky enough to have wifi at work and home so I don"t need an additional internet source. The keyboard works better for my fat fingers than using my android cellphone. I've been pulling up apps and bookmarking my favorite websites all week to make it easier for me. The only disadvantage I'm having is when I'm on my home email site I can't touch and open the emails without the keyboard popping up and getting in the way. I'll have to find a solution for that. I do have limited knowledge on all the tablets out there in the market. I've only just oberve the galaxy, I pad and one other brand from co-workers. I've already attached the 32SD card which! was very simple for more memory. So far it is doing all the... 5/5 Lena McClary (Michigan) - See all my reviews, April 7, 2012

Not a high-end tablet pc, but good for the money

Keep in mind, the Coby Kyros MID1024 is not an iPad or Xoom, but for the price, it gets the job done. The factory installed apps library is a little lacking (it does not have access to the Google Android Marketplace without rooting - which voids warranty). I was able to manually install the Amazon Marketplace on it, which added a lot of options, including a Kindle App, making for a very nice e-reader! Some things are awkwardly laid out and a bit clumsy until you get it the way you want it to be customized with the home screen shortcuts, etc; it occasionally crashes and has to be restarted; but for half the price of the big names, it holds its own as a very functional 10 inch tablet. It has nice touch response. For wi-fi Internet browsing and e-reading, it gets the job done very nicely for the price.Added 12/22/11: With the roll out of the Kindle Fire, Amazon's App Marketplace is growing daily. This really opens the Kyros up to a lot of options (without rooting),... 4/5 Carey (IL) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Surprised big time. Worth the money.

I just tested one of these and was able to quickly install Android Market, Adobe Flash, Netflix, and a bunch of other apps. All of the applications that I installed work well and this tablet is NOT slow. I am very pleased with the performance so far. I have used an iPad2 extensively before testing a Coby Kyros 1024. For the money you can't beat the Coby Kyros 1024 with the capacitive multi-touch screen. Sure the iPad2 is awesome but not for $500+. The Kyros is priced right and actually very easy to use. For those that are griping about the screen, turn up the screen brightness, the setting is under "Settings". I was also about to gripe about the screen but I discovered the setting was set to absolute low. Just spend a little time on getting to know the Kyros user interface Android 2.2. If you already have an Android phone you should have no problems. I've been testing the Kyros for 2 days and have figured out just about everything concerning navigating the tablet and... 4/5 Michael L. This device comes with it's own marketplace called appslib which has several watered down apps on it. Also it spontaneously locks up and reboots. Gonna give it a week to see if Coby puts out a patch, but this lemons is prolly going back to the tree 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 18, 2011

Works well for what I bought it for...

So far I really like this tablet. I chose it over the Samsung because external reviews were good and I valued the larger size 10" tablet over the smaller size 7" more popular brand. The 10" Samsung was way more expensive. It works well. It has been very easy to figure out how to maneuver. The camera is only 2 mega pixel so I wouldn't use it for quality pics instead of my digital camera but it is handy to have. There were plenty of apps to download for free. Most of which I added so my 5 year old nephew could play games on it. I will mainly use it to connect to the internet for facebook and e-mail when out of town. It is wi-fi only but many places have free wi-fi now. However it said that the following items were included but they were not: USB host/keyboard adapter, stereo headphones. The headphones I really don't care about at all. But I ordered a case w/keyboard that was recommended and am not able to use it because the keyboard has full size USB... 4/5 Linda Scantlin - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Played around with it to try and download common apps such as Netflix and Facebook and came to the surprising disappointment that it doesn't run them. So let me get this straight...can't run Netflix...no Google play....no angry birds...has twitter app but not Facebook. THIS IS HOW YOU SCREW UP YOUR COMPANY COBY. you gave me a polished turd of disappointment. And this is 4.0 android ice cream sandwich technology that can virtually play nothing??
