The Coby Kyros tablet offers a large screen for relatively little money, but it's a bad proposition at any price.

Best value for the money out there

I bought this to replace another 7-inch android tablet that broke when it was sat on. That tablet had no brand name, and I had identified a few things I would improve about it if I were to replace it. I did not anticipate having to replace it when I did, but the list of requirements did enable me to narrow down my tablet choices significantly.I wanted a faster processor. At least a dual core, if not quad core. I wanted a better, higher-resolution screen. I wanted bluetooth connectivity. And most importantly, I wanted better battery life. And I wanted all of this for under $200. I got all those and more with this replacement tablet. My choices were narrowed down to this tablet, the Samsung galaxy tab 2 7" wifi, and the nexus 7. The nexus 7 fell out early on when I realized it did not have a micro-sd card slot. Moreover, the tablet would end up costing me more than $200 including taxes and shipping if I bought it from Google. The Samsung tablet had... 4/5 Balaji Ramanathan (hoffman estates, il United States) - See all my reviews, April 16, 2013

    Excellent tablet for the price!

I've owned two other tablets in the past two years. An off-brand one with an All-Winner A10 board in it, and a Uniden tablet (Same tablet as the Polaroid PMID705) The generic tablet was okay but as I shortly found out, its near impossible to get parts for. I paid 120 bucks for it and after a week it got broken (The charger tip got shoved up inside and busted the powerjack). It felt cheap anyway. The Uniden tablet was nice. No complaints but it had a single core processor and 512ram with no additional storage so unless you had an Micro SD card it all had to be saved on the tablet thus taking up half of them from the start. But it was only 60 bucks so I can't complain. But I finally decided I wanted a decent tablet that ran games good, and browsed the web without lag. And this Coby tablet was going to be my choice. From the second I turned it on I was won-over. It booted up fast. It had a fast response time to doing stuff. I could leave 10 apps open and still... 5/5 Charles E. Hughes (Franklin, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews, March 30, 2013

Shockingly good for a Coby, short battery life

I ordered this item for my special needs son, who had an iPad Mini, which he loved. However, he wasn't quite ready to take care of it yet. So, after doing some research, as well as trusting the high reviews here on Amazon, I decided to give this a shot, despite Coby's less than stellar reputation when it comes to electronics.Item arrived, and despite the plastic case, it seemed to be decently put together...no, say, Nexus 7 or, even higher, iPad level quality, but for $100, definitely not bad.Had only about 4% of battery life, took, oh, 3-4 hours to charge. Also not horrible.Anyway, set it up, got some apps (this is Google Play certified, a plus considering the "non rock status"), and handed it over to my 7 year old......after I played with it for about 45 minutes.Screen reaction was smooth...capactive worked well, apps opened up at a relatively quick pace, and while I didn't try any "heavy graphic" games, all the apps ran... 3/5 G. Great little bargain tablet

I'm writing this review from the perspective that I did NOT purchase an iPad, and I didn't EXPECT to GET an iPad for under $200. I DID NOT, and DO NOT plan to root this device at this time. This tablet is a great little bargain tablet to play with, surf the web, check emails, etc. This is NOT a cellular data tablet, so you're stuck on WiFi, but you should already know that when you purchase this. I got this tablet to replace a garbage Dell laptop that I have. It's much smaller, therefore much easier to carry around, and does just about everything that the laptop does for me.This tablet runs Android 4.0, and it runs it well. I haven't had any lag issues, or problems with the OS, it does what it's supposed to, and does it well (for a $150 tablet). The screen resolution is a little pixely, but not bad, I mean We're not talking 1985 IBM/Commador. It's only really noticeable if you're concentrating on it. The camera is NOT meant for any type of useable image. It's a... 5/5 D. WALTER (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews, July 7, 2012

New to tablets. like this but it has its flaws

I got to say, I'm really pleased with my purchase. The table comes on in about 35 seconds (yes, I timed it), is easily navigated, and connects to the internet rather quickly. It's a decent size too; not too small, not too big. I was worried that the screen was going to be tiny and I'd be unable to see it, but it's pretty nice. The screen takes up almost the entire front of the tablet, minus about a half inch along the side and about a millimeter along the remaining edges. It's also pretty responsive too. Some small objects in games might get a bit sketchy and take a few ties to click, but over all it's great. It opens Apps quickly, plays everything I downloaded including a 3D (as in Mario 64, not Titanic 3D) game I found in Amazon's App Store. I see many reviews complaining about Google's store not being able to run on this tablet, but I don't see the problem running with Amazon's thing; an app is an app is an app, right? who cares where it was bought from?I took this on a... 4/5 Richard Holderby (North Highlands, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Solid Intro Tablet for First-Timers

This is a simple, solid product. Disclaimer- the first one arrived and the sound stopped working, but Amazon took care of me and 3 days later (over the weekend) I had a replacement in-hand that is going strong. The big drawback for tablet/Android noobies is the fact that it doesn't have the all-mighty Google Play app, and you cannot have it because Coby doesn't appear to send any devices to Google for certification and pay licensing fees... That's ok because I got all the apps I want from Amazon and 1Mobile app stores. I haven't paid a dime and can make spreadsheets, word docs, play Angry Birds, use Flash player, etc. I'd like Google Maps, but since that program is most effective on a mobile network and this doesn't have that (but I do get this tablet onto the net through my cell phone's hotspot) it's not missed. Besides, I DO have it on my cell phone :)Who this is for- People that can tunnel out to the net on the go through their phones or coffee shop/home... 4/5 mja2001 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great at what it does.

I work nights in a home health environment, so I have some free time while my clients sleep. I decided to get a tablet so I could access Facebook, Angry Birds, and Netflix, along with some other apps to help pass the slower hours. I am not trying to remote dock a space capsule to the space station, so I didn't need all of the bells and whistles from a $1,000 tablet. This tablet does everything I need. I can access the internet, play the games I want, and watch movies. I downloaded the Amazon Appstore which has more apps than Google Play, and it was so easy...it is hard to understand some of the reviews. They might have just not been aware of how to do it, which is fine...not everyone can do it.My five stars is not a comparison to other, far more expensive tablets...that's not a review, it is a comparison. I am reviewing the tablet based on it performing the way it is supposed to for what it is. I can watch movies on Netflix with no lag. I can play Angry Birds and... 5/5 M. Highly Useful: But Know What It Is

I have been in search of a good useful portable "computer" for a while. You may see my reviews on various tablets on Amazon. This is next on my search for that device. I have at home a computer I built and a system which is very well suited for my needs, and I have been seeking a useful portable device. I have owned and used laptops, netbooks, tablet converting laptops, touch screen netbooks, tablets (iPad, Acer Iconia, etc), smaller tablets (Kindle Fire, Nook Color, many Coby Kyros models, etc), and have found those devices unused in practice because of the constant presence of my smartphone (which is with me on the go) and my home computer (which is used at home), leaving the portable devices left unused. The quick facts which would be useful to know now: if you want to play games, then this device is not suitable. The touch screen requires pressure to work (but it will work with anything), which makes it hard to use the multitouch and precise movements required by most... 5/5 J. F. OK for price but no access to Google Play apps

Let me preface this review by saying I have an Ipad and was not expecting an Ipad when I bought this. I wanted an inexpensive Android tablet to play with so this seemed to fit the bill and was an Amazon Prime item, so I went ahead with the purchase. When I received the tablet I opened it right away and started playing with it and found the interface fairly easy to navigate (after I figured out what pressure was needed to use on the screen). It is a resistive screen rather than the Ipad's capacitive so one needs to press down harder on the screen than with the Ipad. I found that a stylus works better on this kind of screen. The 7 inch screen has its pros and cons - 7 inches is a little small to read on some websites and the gestures you need to use to zoom in are hard to master and don't work on some sites. It is small enough to drop in a bag and take with you. At $90.00 or so I am more comfortable taking that along everyday than the $500 Ipad. For me the deal... 3/5 hkfilmfan (Hillsboro, OR United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
