About this book
Beginning Android Tablet Programmingstarts off by showing how to get your system ready for Android tablet programming. You won't need any previous Android experience, because you'll learn all about the basic structure of an Android program and how the Android operating system works-and then you'll learn how to write your first Android tablet application from scratch! Beginning Android Tablet Programmingthen equips you to build a set of interesting and fully-working Android tablet applications. These projects will give you the inspiration and insights to build your own Android programs in the future. You'll be introduced to 2D programming, and you'll see what you can do with a touch screen interface and the Honeycomb SDK. Of course, 3D programming is even more alluring for many programmers. If that includes you, you'll learn about how Honeycomb has changed the game for Android graphics programming, and get your first taste of 3D programming on an Android tablet. Lights, camera, action! You'll learn along the way how Android Honeycomb gives you access, through your programming, to all those interesting sensors that tablet computers are equipped with today-beyond the touch screen itself. You'll learn, for example, how you to use a tablet GPS sensor to locate your car! You'll also discover how you can access files on your tablet-or on the web-through programming, and then build on that insight to create your own file browser application. This Android project contains many useful coding techniques appropriate for many situations you might encounter in your future programming Android tablet applications; you'll be glad to have them under your belt. This is a steal for $50 as long as you aren;t expecting a "Premium" experience.

I pre-ordered this for my wife mostly to use as a Kindle E-reader as I figured the tablet would be slow and the display would be less than impressive. I was wrong. What a bargain this little beauty is! This model cost $49.00 but it comes with ad's displayed on the lock screen when your tablet is dormant. Once your screen times out, they disappear. You can pay $15.00 up front to get an ad free version so I assumed to unlock the tablet I'd have to spend 15 to 30 seconds looking at an ad for Amazon Prime, or a product from the daily specials section of Amazon.com I abstained from paying for Ad removal and was pleasantly surprised to find that the ads are only on the lock screen and that as soon as I unlock the tablet they disappear immediately. Here are my pros and cons thus far.PRO:Perfect size for Ebooks, and web surfing to alleviate strain on the eyes from my 5" phone displaynice sturdy casing that gives it a nice heft but still weighs in as one... 5/5 Geoff Hulse (Fayetteville, Ar., US) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) UPDATED: Incredible Value for Under $50!

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:16 MinsUPDATED - After spending quite a bit more time with the device, I would give it a 4.5 due to a few specific gaps that are a bit annoying. However, you are still getting an amazing 7” tablet, with front and rear facing cameras, a gorgeous interface, fairly snappy performance and durability, all for under 50 bucks! I can’t imagine not buying these for myself and my whole family, but not a primary tablet for a techie adult by any means. For background, I have every Kindle, a couple Fires, and multiple tablets from Apple, Microsoft and Samsung. Note that my review with 5 stars considers the value equation, not just performance and how that may or may not compare to other tablets - if you are expecting this to compare to a tablet costing several times more, don't bother. But if you are looking for a great entry level tablet that does most of the things people want, this little tablet definitely delivers the value... 5/5 TM massage - See all my reviews, October 2, 2015

Best Value, Especially with Prime, but beware: mine has 2 dead pixels, Works with GH4 + Antutu Benchmarked!

Customer Video Review Length:: 8:04 Mins$50? Despite the dirt cheap price, i find it to be great for casual use. Videos play nice, games even play nice, text is just not as sexy looking as higher resolution screens. Watch the video for full demo! The short/summed up version: it's the new budget king in the 6-8" size. It's screen is a little lower in resolution but still pleasant to look at, it has enough power for most of the typical tablet tasks, and it shares many of the same features as its higher priced brothers such as front and back cameras, b/g/n wifi, and good overall battery life (minus an hour) My favorite size tablet is 8", so if you're looking at the amazon fire lineup, i would take this over the 6" for sure, and would have a hard time picking the 8" fire at 3x the price. If you're not a prime member, it's still a good tablet, if you are a prime member: it's a great tablet. Possible quality control issue: Mine had two dead pixels (not... 4/5 Darren Levine (NYC) - See all my reviews, October 2, 2015

    Perfection

I bought this tablet at my local Target store on the 30th of June and let me say, this is the best tablet I ever had. It's super light and easy to use. The front and back camera are great to take selfies and pictures and it's great for taking videos. The Skype is great as well. I am a teenager myself and I am using it for school and personal stuff. I use the Google Chrome for web browsing and it's really fast. Downloading apps is fast as well as opening and running them. I have downloaded the CM Security from the Google Play Store for free and I run it once a day and it always says it's safe. I also downloaded the CleanMaster app and clean it after I'm done using it and it helps deletes the junk files and makes the device run even faster.A couple of my relatives have both the iPad and the iPad Mini, but when I tried both of them myself, nothing compares to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. The iPad Mini is a little bigger than this and a little lighter, but from what I... 5/5 Melissa M. A great tablet for the basic user

So I have had this tablet for about a week. I bought my first one from Walmart and my girlfriend ended up liking it so much I bought her one off here. Hers hasn't came yet but I figured since hers is the same exact model that I should give a review on this tablet. I find this tablet to be a good buy for the money because first of all its thin and light. Is it as thin as a iPad air? No its not but its thin enough and small enough to where I don't feel this when I carry it around to the store with me or to a friends house. Its about twice as thick as a iPad air 2 but twice as light (at least thats what I think). I also REALLY like how the back isn't some shinny crappy plastic that smudges and scratches really easy. It has a very nice textured back that feels really good to hold in the hand. One thing of many things I don't like about the physical design is that Samsung still uses that fake chrome looking design around the tablet. I wouldn't mind this to much if it didn't chip so easy... 4/5 The Geek - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Amazing quality and performance at a very good price point!

Customer Video Review Length:: 9:48 MinsUpdate September 8, 2014:About 6 weeks ago I started having issues charging the Samsung tablet. A red x appeared over the battery symbol and the tablet appeared to be charging but very slowly. This red x means that the tablet is plugged into a computer and exchanging data but in reality it was plugged into the Samsung AC wall charger using their cable.I tried another Micro USB charging cable and it worked fine but not every time. I was worried that the charging port on the tablet was going bad. I take excellent care of my smart devices and I wanted to find out what the issue was. I contacted Samsung support using the on line message support system. It took about an hour to convince Samsung that the cable was bad and perhaps the AC wall charger. They shipped me a new AC wall charger and the cable. I tried only the cable by itself first and it has worked perfectly every time I haved plugged it in for three weeks. I wanted to... 5/5 JJCEO (Greenwood, Indiana) - See all my reviews, May 3, 2014

Really 4.5 stars but that isn't possible

I bought four of these for my church's sound system so that musicians could control their own monitors. They arrived quickly and were packed well. On opening the tablets they were packed with a charger and a cable to charge from any micro USB charger. The charger included seemed to be a quicker charge though so the user might want to use it. However, it worked on my USB charging station just fine. On the charging station with all four tablets plugged in with low batteries it took about 6 hours to charge. On their own charger it only takes about four.Booting the tablets is quick. Much less than 1 minute. I'm sure this is because of the octacore processor and the lack of bloatware. In fact the stock Android 5.1 that it comes with is refreshing because it ships with a minimum of "factory enhancements" that come with most tying up resources. The package is light weight and a bit plastic-y of a feel and I'm sure that is because of the price point. I wouldn't want to... 5/5 Casch (Northern California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Larger tablet does equate to bigger 'Wow' factor - wonderful tablet!

I am so happy I was able to purchase this tablet & especially at the great price for refurbished product. I had purchased a 10" tablet case to hold an 8" tablet & the straps were too far apart. So I priced the 10" model and found this at an economical price. Some wallpapers are truncated on an 8" tablet display. I was hoping the 10" tablet would show the wallpapers with the same proportion as the 7" tablet counterparts do, and I was correct. The 10" tablet is more closely proportioned to the 7" tablet display. So, there is still a bit of the left & right edge of the wallpaper that gets truncated but it is less so than on the 8" tablet display. The big plus with the 10" tablet, in addition to seeing more of the horizontal edge of the wallpaper, is that there's a lot more real estate to work with on the screen and the processor is really fast - seems faster then the 7" version and the rippling effect for certain wallpapers on-screen is... 5/5 JT on Amazon - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great tablet for the price

It works as well as I expected. I bought it to take notes on during class and to go through powerpoint presentations. It is a bit on the slow side, especially if there are too many background apps running. The weight is a bit more then I expected, but what bothers me the most is the power and volume buttons being located on the backside. It feels great when in one hand naked but the buttons are difficult to access with a case on it.Considering all of that, I still think that this is great device. There isn't too much bloatware to slow it down and the battery life is acceptable. If it broke I would buy another one in a heartbeat.UPDATE (9/1/15) - I was trying out a couple of different launchers and after I deleted the ones I decided not to use it has speed up a bit. As long as the applications running in the background are limited it seems to work fine. If you would like to do this, go to settings>about>software information and then tap Build... 5/5 Ben Smith - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) don't buy.

0 1/5 Jay gilio - See all my reviews This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME170CX 7-Inch 16GB Dual-Core Processor Android Tablet - Black (Certified Refurbished) (Personal Computers) Too bad I can't give zero stars. This tablet started out great, but shortly after became a headache. Constantly force closes itself no matter what app I'm on. I did a factory reset, key pad won't show up a lot of times and when it does, it goes away after a quick second then I can't get it to do e back up, it has only gotten worse since then. Scratches so easily, cracks easily and just flat out sucks. The sad part is, I've only had it for 9 months. My crappy Samsung galaxy tab 1 has lasted almost 4years. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 1, 2015

    Good tablet for the money

0 5/5 Austin Sheffield - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME170CX 7-Inch 16GB Dual-Core Processor Android Tablet - Black (Certified Refurbished) (Personal Computers) Met my standards. The only real reason I bought a tablet was so that I could read ebooks. If you are buying a tablet to use over your phone I would like elsewhere, as it gets sluggish when multitasking 3 tasks. When doing one process it is relatively fast. So far the qualify is nice, feels nice in the hand, doesn't feel cheap which is really nice. One thing however are the buttons, as they are in a weird part of the tablet and it makes them hard to use in a case. Other than that it is a great tablet for the money. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 3, 2015

pricier but better than the Fire 7 inch.

A delightful replacement for the latest generation Fire 7inch HD I am giving away to my brother, which annoys me immensely. NOTE: one speaker, sound level is modest. The virtual-mouse 'scratch pad' area is too fast for comfort and cannot be adjusted in this generation of Android- an update for the driver could sure help on this! It works fine with a wireless Argus mouse however. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 25, 2015

    Excellent tablet

The first time I purchased the tablet it came broken (there were two cracks in the screen) even though the packaging wasn't damaged, which makes me think it was broken before the seller sent it. It was is very frustrating since it took a week to arrive even with Prime shipping. I ended up returning it and buying from Reutz Deals instead. They got the tablet to me a day early (it took only two days to arrive) which is awesome and this time it was in perfect condition. They also contacted me later to make sure the tablet was undamaged and working for me. So overal I highly recommend buying from Reutz Deals if you're uncertain.I've used the tablet for about a week now, and so far it works great! It's fast, the screen is crisp, clear, and bright, and the keyboard is awesome. It's surprisingly high quality considering the price. My only complaint is that the sound isn't very good when watching shows or playing music out loud on the tablet, but this is easily fixed with... 5/5 BetonySkye (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) because I do love this tablet BUT it seems to be defected

0 3/5 Marelouise (New York) - See all my reviews This review is from: RCA Viking Pro 10" 2-in-1 Tablet 32GB Quad Core Blue Laptop Computer with Touchscreen and Detachable Keyboard Google Android 5.0 Lollipop l (Personal Computers) I bought this product At Walmart. I'm rating to three starts, because I do love this tablet BUT it seems to be defected. It worked great the first time I put it on. But after that, anytime I try to turn it on, it just automatically goes to the system reboot screen. So I tried to reset it , and then it just stays on the logo. I tried looking for answers online. And it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 29, 2015
