About this book
Beginning Android Tablet Programmingstarts off by showing how to get your system ready for Android tablet programming. You won't need any previous Android experience, because you'll learn all about the basic structure of an Android program and how the Android operating system works-and then you'll learn how to write your first Android tablet application from scratch! Beginning Android Tablet Programmingthen equips you to build a set of interesting and fully-working Android tablet applications. These projects will give you the inspiration and insights to build your own Android programs in the future. You'll be introduced to 2D programming, and you'll see what you can do with a touch screen interface and the Honeycomb SDK. Of course, 3D programming is even more alluring for many programmers. If that includes you, you'll learn about how Honeycomb has changed the game for Android graphics programming, and get your first taste of 3D programming on an Android tablet. Lights, camera, action! You'll learn along the way how Android Honeycomb gives you access, through your programming, to all those interesting sensors that tablet computers are equipped with today-beyond the touch screen itself. You'll learn, for example, how you to use a tablet GPS sensor to locate your car! You'll also discover how you can access files on your tablet-or on the web-through programming, and then build on that insight to create your own file browser application. This Android project contains many useful coding techniques appropriate for many situations you might encounter in your future programming Android tablet applications; you'll be glad to have them under your belt. So do you want to write programs that can receive and send reminder messages via SMS? Do you want to write your first 2D or 3D game on Android? I bought a generic tablet back before tablets were really popular. It was android 1.5 and no upgrades were really feasible. I used it and loved it. But finally decided to replace it. So I did lots of research and found that tablets are all over the charts these days from reasonably priced to extreme. I read the specs on this tablet and it was a story of sounding a little too good to be true. But I took a gamble based on the low price and I bought. I will say I couldn't be happier. Everything works. Browsing the web is just like a pc speedwise. The Googleplay store works like a champ. I love the voice active search. I can speak what I want it to look for and it finds it. I have used this many more times that I ever thought I would. And this wasn't even listed on the features for the product listing so I consider it a bonus. My wife and I raced to see who could lookup a listing of songs by an old band we remembered. She on her laptop and I on my tablet. Works great with any Wi Fi(i.e starbucks, barnes and noble, mcdonalds). Full HTML5 web browsing (i was surprised by that). A really good tablet

After being pleased with a Coby Kyros Mid 7122 and later being disappointed after buying a Coby Kyros MID 7042, I decided to give a shot to another budget tablet company that I haven't heard of. In fact, I'm not even sure what the name of the Tablet is other than an A13 tablet.I have to say...I'm more than pleased with my purchase. Now, onto my review-Appearance/Design-The first thing I noticed about this tablet is the fact that it's really thin. Not paper thin or anything, but comparable to Razr products being that it's about a centimeter in thickness. The colors are quite typical of budget tablets; it has a dark gray finish with black trim around the screen. One thing I wasn't too crazy about because I'm so used to my budget tablets being Coby Kyros design, would be that the inputs are in awkward spots. For example, the AC power jack input it located at the very top of the tablet as is the USB input. It just seems weird. The power button... 5/5 pennywyze - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent 7" Tablet for all round purpose.

Customer Video Review Length:: 9:04 MinsI reviewed black version of this as I purchased it. Color is only difference. ProntoTec Q8 7 inch Dual Core Tablet is a very good value in price per performance. It has 4 GB SDRAM. After installing bunch of applications, I still had available 2 GB. This runs Android 4.2.2. Android. I have been using for 3 days with no issues. The performance of this box is great and I have used browser/email/games like Temple run as well as puzzle games. I feel this product should have a higher rating for these reasons:FIRST: PRICE is affordable. You cant walk into best buy or any store and buy a tablet for this price. You just can't.2nd: I bought these products as gifts to some friends who are just beginning to learn the tablet world and what apps are. This is great for the basic internet use and games.Third: I would recommend this product to anyone who just wants a tablet to surf the net, facebook, skype, watch netflix.. I mean thats what we do on our apple products anyways so why pay sooooo much when you can get the same thing for a cheaper price?? 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 25, 2014

Not a bad tablet for the price

I bought two of these tablets for my daughters (ages 9 & 11). Both of them are fairly tech savvy and have used iPods and my more expensive Android tablet in the past so I thought this would be helpful when doing their homework. Upon receiving the tables, both girls started downloading various games from the Google Play store. They had no problems installing apps and I showed them how to go into the settings and move the apps to the SD card memory, so they wouldn't run out of memory on the tablet as quickly (being that this has only 4GB of internal memory.) Both of them (and I was too) were impressed at how nicely the tablet worked. They also used the tablet to video Skype with their cousin in Colorado (we live in California) and had some issues with a constant squealing sound. They noticed it went away when they used headphones during the Skype call. They video was clear and very smooth and sound quality was excellent, when using the headphones. A few other issues I... 3/5 Ryan F. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Unbiased reveiw

Mine works fine Came with 2 chargers, both worked. Mine came from china i believe so i expected a couple of weeks and it actually got here way before then. Don't pay attention to some of the reveiws on here i mean come on people! why are you giving a breakable-delicate- (READ: NOT FLIMSY) relatively high tech piece of technology to a 12 year old? Do you realize that 5 years ago touch screens didn't even exist. For s***ssake it's glass, hd-cameras, circuits and advanced NASA stuff all laid into less then .6 inch thick plastic sheilding protecting .9 ounces of pure futuristic-space-age-flux capacitor stuff. Great Buy!!!!

When I first read the review on this tablet there were a lot of negative post about the tablet. But for the price I took a chance on it. This Tablet is nothing like a kindle or a Apple I pad. So if your trying to compare this Tablet to those you will be disappointed. But with this tablet you will get is a lot of apps since it has the android market. The web works good and the video works good when you use apps to stream. My favorite apps are Verizion remote which allows me to change my tv channel with the tablet and Philadelphia Eagles app which I can stream clips and eppisodes and then the HBO and Verizion Fios app to watch tv. I can even monitor my home with the verizion app. and I can start my Car with the Viper app. This Tablet is real good if you just want a tablet that does the basics. A Real Bargain Considering the Price and The Capabilities

Think about what you can buy for less than fifty dollars? A new pair of shoes? A shirt? Not much. This Android is one of the best bargains on the market. At approximately 7" X 4" and weighing only 12 ounces, you can bring this anywhere. The plastic exterior is tough and durable. There are very little instructions, but then most tablets don't come with much. Fortunately it is intuitive. It comes with a dozen or so basic apps, including Gmail. The apps look pixilated and kind of cheesy, but that's not a worry. The screen image for videos and pictures is surprisingly good. The sound is a tiny tinny-sounding speaker, but the headphone jack will give you great stereo. There is also a 'gravity sensor' included for those who want to try gaming (i.e., Temple Run)The storage is not much - only 4GB, but there is an option to install a 32GB TF Card which is more than you really need. Amazon has TF Cards for as little a few bucks but I'd advice spending fifteen... 5/5 Martin A Hogan "Marty From SF" (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews, May 6, 2014

Excellent 3rd-generation tablet that compares favorably to the competition

This is the middle model of the three models that Amazon is shipping this year: the Kindle Fire HD, the Kindle Fire HDX (this tablet), and the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9". This is the successor for last year's Kindle Fire HD but with an updated operating system and new features, a redesigned shell (with the power and volume control buttons more readily accessible), an absolutely amazing display, superb sound, an included power adapter, and the new Mayday feature. See http://www.amazon.com/review/RNH700DOM9WN3/ for my review of the Kindle Fire HD and http://www.amazon.com/review/R2YPITHVTYLCZT for my review of the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9".Update: Some users are reporting a bluish glow around the edges of the screen for the HDX. If you search on YouTube for HDX Blue Haze, you can find a video showing the issue. Amazon has updated their "Learn More" link with the following info:"To achieve the perfect color accuracy on Kindle Fire HDX 7" at the lowest possible battery... 5/5 NF (Pacific Northwest) - See all my reviews, October 19, 2013

    Nice Tablet with Sharp Display

To sum up what I will tell you about in the details below, for $229 you are getting a good deal on a tablet computer - especially if you compare it to the $199 for last year's first-generation Fire HD and the $500 or more you can spend on a Wi-Fi version of the iPad. Overall, if you consider the price and the functionality I think this is a great tool / toy if you watch a lot of video or play a lot of games on your device: the video quality is outstanding and you can really tell a difference between this and the new HD Fire. If you are a first-time tablet buyer, where price vs. value is a key consideration, or if you are looking for an affordable tablet for the kids, I'd recommend the "regular" Kindle Fire HD that is only $139. If you're comparing last year's HD model to this version and it is operating fine, I'd say save your money and continue to get your money's worth out of that one.My review below compares a lot of the features of this version of the Fire HDX to the... 4/5 Michael Gallagher (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews, October 18, 2013

Best tablet out there for $149!

This is a really great tablet. I got it for $149 so I didn't have my hopes too high with it being this cheap but it's an excellent tablet. I would say this is by far the best tablet for $149. The build quality seems to be really good, not cheap and creaky like the Hisense Sero 7 Pro from Walmart. The back is mildy grippy like the nexus 7. It's super light only weighing 314g! It has front and rear cameras that aren't that great but it's better than nothing. The tablet comes with Android 4.2.2 and it's stock Android with only 2 Dell cloud apps that can be disabled anyways so it's nice and clean. Dell says it'll get 4.4 KitKit soon. This does have a GPS, and an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness. The micro sd slot works well, I have a 32GB card in it working great. The speaker is on the bottom side to when laying flat the sound isn't muffled, it gets really loud for a little speaker. The sound quality when you plug headphones in is excellent, blew me a way, the... 5/5 derekmski - See all my reviews This review is from: Dell Venue 7 16 GB Tablet (Android) (Personal Computers) This is a really great tablet. Great Deal

I just got this tablet so I can't speak to longevity, etc., but as for first impressions, this is a really great tablet for the price. What I like:-Build quality seems excellent - really solid feel.-Micro SD slot for expansion is great.-Pretty much stock Android (I have used the Samsung version in the past, I found it almost unworkable).-Lots of RAM and a fairly fast processor means apps run quicklyOn the negative side, it has cameras, though they are pretty low quality - good enough for Skype, etc., but won't beat your phone for pictures.Overall, I would recommend. I will update after a while if anything goes wrong.EDIT 11/7/2013: Just thought I would give an update about the Micro SD card reader, as I was a bit confused about it. On the Dell site, it says it is SDXC compatible, supporting up to 128GB (when they are available), but in other spots it says "a micro SD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage", which would... 5/5 Dirk (San Francisco) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Value For The Price

Seven inches seems to be the "sweet spot" in size for a tablet that is convenient to carry around and yet large enough to actually use, so I ordered this one to see if it works for me. I find this tablet to be very well designed, with good screen viewing angles and adequate battery life, but to have limited internal speakers.Design:The tablet is very comfortable to hold and quite compact. The device is designed for portrait mode (the camera is at the top when held that way), although it works fine in landscape, which is my preferred mode. The top has the power button and jack for a standard headset. The left side has volume +/- and the MicroUSB port. The bottom has the speakers in the middle, and the Dell asset tag. The right side has a compartment that opens to reveal the MicroSD card slot and a slot for a MicroSIM card (which is filled in for my WiFi model). The rear is smooth but not slippery.Use:The device is quite snappy in use, and never... 5/5 Amazon Customer (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews, November 25, 2013
