About this book
Beginning Android Tablet Programmingstarts off by showing how to get your system ready for Android tablet programming. Beginning Android Tablet Programmingthen equips you to build a set of interesting and fully-working Android tablet applications. These projects will give you the inspiration and insights to build your own Android programs in the future. You'll be introduced to 2D programming, and you'll see what you can do with a touch screen interface and the Honeycomb SDK. Of course, 3D programming is even more alluring for many programmers. If that includes you, you'll learn about how Honeycomb has changed the game for Android graphics programming, and get your first taste of 3D programming on an Android tablet. Lights, camera, action! You'll learn along the way how Android Honeycomb gives you access, through your programming, to all those interesting sensors that tablet computers are equipped with today-beyond the touch screen itself. You'll learn, for example, how you to use a tablet GPS sensor to locate your car! You'll also discover how you can access files on your tablet-or on the web-through programming, and then build on that insight to create your own file browser application. This Android project contains many useful coding techniques appropriate for many situations you might encounter in your future programming Android tablet applications; you'll be glad to have them under your belt. Way Too Many Bad Reviews?

I wanted to address some of the negative reviews of this tablet. Some of the reviews are so bad that I strongly doubt their veracity:"Can't Hear The Speaker" - I found the speaker perfectly adequate for this device. I have a feeling some people were trying to hear the speaker when the device was installed in a generic case that did not have speaker cutouts. The speaker is on the back. If you put your finger over it, or press it up against a faux-leather case or silicone case with no speaker cutout, you are not going to hear much of anything. The company sells a case that fits this tablet perfectly. Or, you can modify your generic case by drilling some holes in it."Wi-Fi Cuts Out" - Mine connects instantly. I get four bars in every room of a 2000 square-foot house. I get four bars through six walls. No problems at all. In fact, the Wi-Fi is one of the strongest features. Wi-Fi connections and wireless routers are so variable that any perceived... 5/5 Paul Ramone (United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A Daily, Practical, and Economical Tablet for All the Normal Things We Want to Do

Customer Video Review Length:: 9:44 Mins**UPDATE 25Nov: This little tablet has quickly become my number one favorite travel tablet. Battery longevity is not quite as strong as my previous travel choice, my Samsung Tab 3 10.1", yet it is pretty close (I have all the fluffy, battery-killing features turned off), and it charges via portable batteries like an utter champ (something my Samsung Tab 3 had quirky issues with at times). Plus, the size/width of the Y88X is apparently a very common one. I did a search for cases here on Amazon and was presented with a slew of choices (I got a nice white silicone sleeve). There are even screen protectors available! So although this may have children in mind as the target market, it's certainly befits adults not wanting to lug far, far heavier tablets around.I also have this tablet featured in an UGreen USB Cradle & DE Water Speaker audio setup in a YouTube video of mine that is quite cool, and I also added in a Sansys... 5/5 Tinfoot (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews, November 22, 2014

Great deal. I love this tablet!!Good seller.

0 5/5 Steven li - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) But when I looked into more other models that are at this price range, I found out that they have a new version of this model. This one has a 8 GB storage, bigger than the old version, and a more updated android 4.4. So I decided to go with this one. This little tablet is really cool, it has been working great so far.I have downloaded some games, video, and music player like pandora. Everything works very great so far. Games like COC, farm heros saga, and minecraft, work very well on this little thing. Screen touch responds fast without any lag. I didn’t know how to set the time at first. Called their customer service but the line must be too busy, I didn’t get through. Then the next day in the afternoon, they called back, and helped me resolve it. I’m very happy with that. I like this tablet and would recommended it to my friends. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 14, 2014

Overall a good tablet PC with fast internet speed

This review is from: NeuTab® N7 Pro 7'' Quad Core Google Android 4.4 KitKat Tablet PC, 1024X600 Display, Bluetooth, HD Dual Camera, Google Play Pre-loaded, 3D-Game Supported (Black) (Personal Computers) This is the second time I purchased this tablet. I usually use this for web browsing and this tablet made my day. The internet speed is fast even though it is connected to WIFI. 7 inches screen is big enough for me since I use iPhone4S and it is way bigger than my phone screen.... The camera has font and rear facing just like an smart phone. It also come with some handful apps which I haven't have a chance to play with. Well, I don't do a lot of things with a Tablet PC, just web browsing and watch some videos/movies and that's it. I kind of like this tablet so far. Thanks. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 3, 2015

great value especially for the price!

I own two tabs, both higher end brands. This value-priced tab performs similarly in most areas to my Lenovo, and better in some. The Fire is still the reigning champ for resolution, sound and ease of use I like them both but this keeps up with them, sometimes performing better.First, it's nice to look at. I'm a big fan of plastic, and this is all that. Parts fit sung and tight, no rough edges. It feels well-built and is extremely lightweight. The back is textured with a pleasing subtle pattern and looks nice. It's a bit slippery though, so I place it to avoid a slip or slide which it's eager to do. A cover may help. The design is pleasing and functional and all controls and access ports are where I like them. The power and volume buttons are actually a little TOO easy to push, and would benefit from a slight recess like my Lenovo and Fire have. A rubberized back would be nice, but that would affect the pleasing price. The first thing you notice is that the... 5/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT

Perhaps I should rate the Dragon Touch at a five star rating but I did not and here's why/The cameras are not good at all and the single speaker is lousy. But then I did NOT purchase this tablet for either of those two things and everything I wanted it to do t does VERY WELL.At its price point, the M8 Android tablet is absolutely marvelous. Now I already owned an LG 8" G-pad that costs several times over what the Dragon Touch did and so my hopes were set at that level (preposterous at this price level, eh?) and I have to say the little Dragon really works well. The two tablets are of equal size, but the screen on the G-pad is slightly larger which means that the M8 has a little more plastic around the screen which actually improves one's ability to handle a touch screen device with less false touching going on. The M8's screen is very bright and colorful and responsive. It even has a built in FM radio which actually works, but it uses the headphone wire as an... 4/5 Chuckeroo "fides quaerens intellectum" (El Campo, TX United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Dragon Touch: "M8" 8" Tablet: A Comprehensive Critical Review.,

Customer Video Review Length:: 4:46 Mins It's been three years since I've written a review on a tablet despite having bought two Samsung tablets last year (2014): a Galaxy Note 10.1 and Note Pro 12.2.But, I also rejected an offer to review a tablet from Cody because of a legacy of quality-control issues that I've experience with their products.***This is my first time dealing with any product from Dragon Touch and I must admit before being contacted by them, I never heard of them. They read one of my reviews of a middle ground tablet from a private company.Their "M8" with its spec's and by its performance is really a good option if you're not concerned with the high-end processors and/or owning a status symbol from a reputable company.Although this computer is not from a name-brand company, this is a quality budget tablet that works very well and is extremely affordable.Well, what do you get for $100... 5/5 Andre Lawrence (Miami, Florida) - See all my reviews, March 29, 2015

Overall this is a decent tablet but for the price this is an excellent tablet! Great for video streaming device!!

Overall this is a decent tablet but for the price this is an excellent tablet! Here are a few things to keep in mind before purchasing this tablet..1.) It has no bluetooth but most tablets this price don't.. Just keep that in mind2.) This is a dual core tablet, while a lot on the market are now quad-core for the price dual core is awesome.. It can handle most games and can do most task with ease.. I downloaded several of the top 10 games from Google Play and all of them played with no problem!3.) Speaking of google play, this tablet has it preinstalled.. Again, a rarity for tablets this price!! Having play already installed is a big plus as it can be a little tricky to sideload yourself..4.) Battery life while not great is decent.. I get about 3 - 4 hours out of mine with average use.. This is what is advertised for this tablet so no issues there..5.) Ram is a little lacking on this tablet, so don't expect a lot... 5/5 Devin Stephens (I Review, email in Profile) (Knoxville TN) - See all my reviews, April 20, 2015

    Absolutely phenomenal.

I got my tablet earlier this week and I've been loving it ever since. It's not top of the line, but it actually plays Fruit Ninja and Temple Run very smoothly. Sometimes opening apps can take a while and it often lags when switching between portrait and landscape mode. The screen resolution isn't bad but the viewing angle is pretty awful. Tilting it just a bit will wash out the color. The battery life is mediocre. I'd say I've been getting just under 3 hours of use when at medium brightness and with the wifi on.That's all stuff I can deal with though, and I really do love this device. The packaging was professional and the box included a tablet charging cable, a micro USB cable, and an ENGLISH user manual. When I first saw the tablet it looked like the screen was scuffed but it was just the screen protector.Like I said, I love this tablet. At $35 I think anyone could use one. Four star tablet for the money, but don't bother buying it

Here's the funny thing about this review: I gave the product 4 stars, but my recommendation is that you should NOT buy it.The tablet meets my expectations. Which is to say my very, very, very low expectations. (I usually reserve 5 stars for a product that exceeds my expectations).I got it at a very low price point, so much so that it seems silly that anyone could make money selling a 7" tablet at that price.Yes, it runs Android 4.4.2, has a dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM. That sounds decent. It's surprisingly light weight, and doesn't look half bad either. It can play YouTube videos and browse the web at a reasonable speed. If you have a need for a very cheap tablet for a very specific purpose (I'm testing apps, personally) then you'll be OK with this. However, I can't see the low cost being worth the frustration. It took the better part of 2 hours for Chrome and FireFox to install. GREAT TABLET, GREAT PRICE!

This is my review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1. This review is not incentivized by Samsung in any way. I purchased the product for my own use. What is it?The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 is the aforementioned company’s latest foray into the midrange tablet market. With these tablets you’re not likely to find a “retina display” or anything over 720p resolution, but they’re more reasonably priced, and therefore, more likely to be adopted by more people.SpecificationsProcessor: 1.2 GHz Quad CoreMemory: 1.5GBStorage: 16GB with additional microSD slotDisplay: 1280×800Operating System: Android Kit Kat 4.4 with Samsung’s TouchWiz UIAs you can see, those specs really aren’t too shabby, but they’re definitely not bleeding edge technology. I believe that this is the best tablet on the market.

0 5/5 EmeraldMeadows - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (10.1-Inch 16GB, White) (Personal Computers) This product is an iPad crusher. I have several iPads, iPhones, iPods and Mac computers. I love Apple products but this Samsung Tab 4 is better, faster, easier to use and comes with a host of standard features that Apple does not even have available such as opening most attachments, file system connectivity and what I love is the enhanced print features. Finally, there's the price. At half the price there is no question that this is the tablet to buy. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 20, 2014

Great tablet if it fits your needs.

I have been a tablet owner for many years, and have owned several different ones. I started years ago with a Motorola Xoom, then upgraded to a Galaxy Tab and then to Tab 2. I now own a Galaxy Note 2014. This purchase in particular was for my mother-in-law who has been my new baby's nanny while my wife has gone back to work. I LOVE Samsung products, and this tablet certainly does not disappoint. It is very fast, and has the bells and whistles that make Samsung products great. The parts of this that made me ding it back to a 4-star though are more nit picky. First, my mother-in-law was planning to use this to also take pictures. That would have been great, except this tablet does NOT have a flash on it. I was extremely surprised, as the previous Tab's had flashes. Had I known this, I would not have made this purchase. I believe on these later models, they did away with this option and have put that onto the Pro version. In the end though, it is my fault for not... 4/5 J. Customer Video Review Length:: 8:28 MinsBefore you read any further, consider the price of this tablet and then think about what you want a tablet to do. You would not be buying an iPad quality tablet, but you would be getting a big screen Android tablet at a budget price with room to add storage for music, movies and photos. For the price it is worth it

I just upgraded from a 1st-gen Kindle Fire to the A1X Plus. At first I was somewhat hesitant when opened the box. Yes, it's not ultra-thin like a Samsung, but it's still thinner than many on the market. The fact it runs 4.4.2, one of the latest versions of Android, was a big selling point. Note: Google just announced version 5.1, so it's not quite cutting-edge, but that's okay. For me I'd rather be a little bit behind the curve with a stable, patched release. The screen is quite large. The bezel doesn't encroach too much on the real estate, which was a plus for me. I expect if TabletExpress continues to develop newer models this will get even smaller. But for me this is more than adequate.Games and video (both SD and HD) seem to play just fine. HDMI output was again, a nice plus, and I'm glad I went for this model instead of the 9".The instruction manual does have some weak points, as others have indicated in their reviews. But due do living off under $800 a month (not complaining) you make do. And after owning the R70 dragontouch 7" where I would be playing a high end game, things on the screen wouldn't even show up and you ran into them. This A 1x is surprisingly good, plus not alot of bloatware and plenty of space.the first thing I did was plug in my hdmi.I could believe how good it worked and looked on my TV. The game I play is fairly demanding (tanktastic) and the a1x is more than fast enough.Lots of space as well and feels solid. But if you don't have alot of $ or don't want to spend it. This tablet is damm good for the money plus I got it in 48 hours. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 2, 2015

0 4/5 Richard H - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME170CX-A1-BK 7-Inch 16GB Tablet (Personal Computers) I hesitate at first and didn't expect much due to it's price and some of the negative reviews here. I was glad I gave this tablet a chance and bought it. So far, I"m very impressed with this tablet and happy with the my purchase. First off, I charged the battery to 100% - no problem, so far so good, It is very very light - much lighter than I thought - which is a big plus for me and my toddler's son (main user). I've been testing this tablet on the last few days and is very happy with how it performs. For three days straight, I kept the tablet on for at least 15hrs a day - either running some sort of games or playing videos on Youtube to test it out. It ran smoothly - ran games (even the data heavy intensive HayDay!) and streamed video with no lags. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 24, 2014

Dead On Arrival, but Fixable :)

After using it for a few days I'm upping the rating on the ASUS MeMo Pad 7 to 4 stars. The screen is clear and bright, 16G of storage is pretty good for a $79 tablet, and the sound is also pretty good for such small speakers (yes, there are two speakers which is a nice feature- most tablets only have one and pipe both stereo channels into the single speaker).Note that this is NOT the "HD" model. The screen resolution is 1024x600, not the 12800x800 of the HD model. Frankly it looks fine to me and to be honest I doubt I'd notice the higher resolution. Both movies and videos look fine on the screen to me.The *only* downside in my opinion is that it doesn't have a physical "Home" button the way most tablets do. The Back/Return, Home, and Menu/Recent buttons are all virtual (onscreen) and they move as the display rotates. Some people might like this but I'd like to have at least one actual physical button on the face of the tablet to wake it or display... 4/5 Mike Rogers "Mike R." Not bad for the price

0 4/5 helen t - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME170CX-A1-BK 7-Inch 16GB Tablet (Personal Computers) For under $100, I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but I’m actually pleasantly surprised. I bought an old Nexus 7 for my husband that he really liked, which was also made by ASUS, so I decided to take a chance on this oneRight out of the box, I noticed the tablet was very light and actually quite narrow, which is good because I have small hands. The screen isn’t as sharp on the MeMO Pad, but for watching videos it’s still pretty good. I’m not a heavy user, but it seems a bit more responsive than the Nexus 7 as my gmail and other apps seem to load quicker.I only played around with the cameras a little bit and they’re not great, but I’m probably not going to use this tablet to take pictures anyway as I have my phone for that. There are some interesting camera modes though, which are fun to play around with for a while.Overall, I’m pretty pleased with this tablet 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 21, 2014

    Impressive performance and features

Customer Video Review Length:: 3:03 Mins So you're probably seeing a bunch of technical specifications and you're wondering how a lower cost tablet like the Dragon Touch E97 compares to a tablet such as an iPad Air 2. Let's break it all down.PROs+ Quad Core Processor: To me, a responsive user interface is one of the most important features of any computing device. Who likes to tap something only to have the unit respond 5 seconds later? The quad core processor in this unit means that this tablet will keep up well with you and your favorite apps. Screen swipes and app launching were fast for me. My unprofessional test in the video involved launching CSR Racing on both tablets at the same time and while load times were definitely longer on the Dragon Touch, the game itself looked really good and played fine. The framerate was lower than the iPad Air 2.+ 1GB of RAM: RAM helps keep the tablet moving along at a snappy pace. The 1 GB of RAM means that... 5/5 Ryan (USA) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2015

It has most of the features of the big names, like dual cameras, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. It also even features 3G wireless in addition to wi-fi, so if you have a phone/data plan and compatible SIM card, you can take this on the go and have really good mobile access. In the box, you basically just have the tablet, instructions, and USB cable/AC adapter. It uses standard micro USB for charging, which is great, since most people probably have plenty of those around and you don't have to worry about a proprietary connection. It also has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side, you have a power/lock button and volume buttons. Customer Video Review Length:: 1:11 Mins The Dragon Touch E97 Quad Core tablet/phone ("phablet"!) is a fantastic device, that does anything that the name brand tablets do but for a much lower price. It looks like one of the larger iPads - it's actually 9.7" (hence the name: E97). It works as a phone, and comes unlocked, with a slot for a sim card and ready to go on any GSM network (such as AT&T, which is my service provider). It works with 2G/3G, but not 4G networks. Even if you don't want to hook it up with a data plan, you can just run it on wifi, and then won't be able to make calls unless you download one of the apps that will run calls or send text via wifi. It does have a very responsive microphone and good speakers, so it's great for calls. It comes with 16GB of memory it also has a slot for an SD card so you can expand the memory as you like.
