    Works, but use caution

0 4/5 SCP - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Individual Power Switches and LEDs (HB-UMLS) (Personal Computers) I just received this item and it does work, but use caution when using it with external hard drives. It seems that any action, such as turning on or off a switch, as well as plugging in or unplugging a device from any of the other ports not currently in use causes a temporary power disruption and will throw your external hard drive off. In other words, you get the warning message that the drive was not properly disconnected. And as this can be bad for hard drives, be sure to properly eject your expansion & flash drives before turning off or on any of the ports and before adding or removing any connections. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 29, 2013

Great little hub - small, portable, lightweight, USB 3.0, power switches

I'm a software developer and have a lot of hubs, and this is one of my new favorites for portability. It's lightweight, doesn't need any power adapters, and has the individual power switches (with individual LEDs that light when on) for control. And it's USB 3.0!The only downside is if you need a lot of power. Because this doesn't have a power adapter to supply the full amount of USB power to each port, you're limited to low power devices. Also, if you need more ports, then this probably wouldn't be what you want. But for what this product is (a small, portable, and fast 4-port USB 3.0 hub), I really like it!NOTE: Be mindful of power limitations, like when attaching mechanical HDs, devices that suck up power to recharge, and other "high power" devices. Total power should not exceed 900mA when plugged into a standard USB 3.0 port or 500mA when plugged into a standard USB 2.0 port.If you don't need USB 3.0 speed, and USB 2.0 will do, then you can save... 5/5 Lantana Al (DFW, TX) - See all my reviews, May 9, 2014

    Fast iPhone Charging, Good Value

.** Sept 2013 update. The updated model has the ports marked. The new swing-away prongs are nice for travel. The price is now usually $10. I have changed my review from 4-stars to 5-stars.- - - Speed Matters- - -Sometimes you need to charge in a hurry. Even if a charger "works with your device" it may be painfully slow. Get one that will charge your devices at full speed (like the one that came with your device). This is not so simple. Product info is often unclear. Reviewers are often unclear. For starters, the "Amps" need to be high enough. That's usually 1 Amp for smartphones, about 2 Amps for tablets. (A higher amp charger is always OK.)The messy part is, Apple devices use their own rules to decide charging speed. A designed-for-Apple charger may be slow to charge non-Apple devices, and vice versa, even if its Amp rating is high enough.- - - About this PowerGen Wall Charger - - -PowerGen gets it right by... 5/5 C. This is an excellent value charger with two USB ports that will charge your iPad 3 and other smart devices!

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:59 MinsIf your home is like mine you are running out of wall sockets to charge all of your toys. Our iPhones, iPads, iPods, iPod Touches, Bluetooth headphones, and on and on all have a separate wall charger. Here is a nice product; no I mean a great product that features two USB sockets for your smart phones, tablets and accessories. I have successfully charged the following devices without any problems:* iPad 2 only on the A port* iPad 3 only on the A port* iPod 60 GIG only worked on the NA port as it is an old school Apple charging design* iPod touch on both ports* Kindle Fire on both ports* Kindle Keyboard on both ports* iPhone 4 on both portsI like that the wall charger has two USB charging ports and it can charge two devices at the same time. I love the design of the hub, it's blue LEDs are very bright, almost like a night light when you consider that a PCs 5v source is always on as long as the PC is plugged in, even when the PC is off... I also love having 7 easy to reach ports.2.) The port has an external power connector, but does NOT come with an external power supply. Still, it seems to work fine for most USB devices (memory sticks, FitBit charging dongle, etc...) My phone says it can pull ~ 450mA from the hub which I'm sure is a limitation of my PCs port rather than the hub.3.) It's CHEAP, which is always nice.CONs:1.) Ok, brace yourself for this one... When the hub arrived, only 3 of the 7 ports worked for data, the other 4 charged OK, but would not pass USB data... I'm a bit of an electronics guy, so rather than return a CHEAP hub, I opened it up and started diagnosing it. Here's what you're buying.a.) Quality Hub for Small Price!

This 7-Port USB hub looks and works like a boss! It comes with 7 ports, 3 more than the usual 4 port hubs, for the same price as a 4 port hub; I only paid 5 dollars total. And what make this hub even better is that it features on/off switches for each individual port, allowing you to shut off what you don't need at the time without removing the USB device. This product also features blue led lights to indicate whether a port is on or off; for those who may be worried if they are too bright, they are not, rather they are just perfect...there are matte plastic covers over the led lights, reducing its overall brightness. Now when i tested the speed of the USB 2.0, I tried copying 1.2 GB of music from my computer to a flash drive plugged in the hub, it wrote at a speed of roughly 5 MB/s. Doing the same thing but instead with a media file it copied at a rate of 6-7 MB/s. I repeated what I mentioned instead directly plugged into the computer USB port and found the same speeds. Great 7-port device hub; not the best for a poor-man's USB switch

Here's a two-part rating. The first and most important concerns its attributes as a device (data-moving) hub. I'm quite happy with it in this capacity, due to the following benefits:Pros* Compact form factor* Cool blue lights for each active port (the blue is more saturated and slightly darker than a blue coneflower, if that helps)* One on/off switch per port (so you can temporarily disable individual devices from being enumerated or unnecessarily powered up)* All seven ports work (kind of a base requirement, but I'm pleased that they all do)* Automatic driver installation in Win7/64 (and presumably other OSes as well)* Black case (goes better with my other components)* Positive engagement of the USB-A plugs (not loose at all, but not difficult to insert)Cons* Just discovered today that it doesn't supply a huge amount of power for charging. Replace up to five single-port chargers with one charger

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:24 MinsMy wife and I have had as many as six single-port AC chargers in the house, but then we started replacing these with multi-port chargers. With the Poweradd 5-port charger, we can put all of the old single-port chargers away. I tested the charger with four mobile devices: two smart phones and two 7" tablets. I plugged the two tablets into the 2.1A ports, and the phones into the 1.0A ports. (In practice, I don't think it matters which ports you use, although the higher-amperage ports will recharge some devices at a faster rate.)All four devices were being recharged steadily while they were connected to the Poweradd charger. The charger became warm to the touch but not hot. I had a USB power meter on one of the 2.1A ports that was charging a Kindle Fire, and it was drawing 0.45A. That's a bit less than I've gotten from some 2A single-port chargers, but for me, it was acceptable, since I usually recharge this tablet overnight when speed isn't that... 5/5 J.
